Cover Launch – THE FIFTH WARD: GOOD COMPANY by Dale Lucas

Fantasy cities are sprawling, dirty places. Filled to bursting with heroes questing, mages testing out spells, thieves around every corner, elves judging everyone, dwarves hating everyone, orcs fighting everyone, and humans being typical humans. You get the idea, there’s a lot going on! Enter Rem and Torval: one a human, the other a dwarf, and both working as Watchwardens.

They’re the city of Yenara’s thin blue line. They keep the peace as best they can. But that’s no small task. And now, in their third adventure together, THE FIFTH WARD: GOOD COMPANY they’re heading out of the city on their first road trip. And the journey will be more perilous than they could ever expect.

Humans, orcs, mages, elves, and dwarves all jostle for success and survival in the cramped quarters of Yenara, while understaffed Watch Wardens struggle to keep its citizens in line.

Now, Rem and Torval must escort a notorious thief through a dangerous forest to the nearby city from where he escaped. But the thief’s companions are waiting, and the soldiers Rem and Torval journey with might not be so honorable.

The Fifth Ward: Good Company publishes July 9th, 2019, but be sure to check out the first two books featuring Rem and Torval’s adventures in fantasy’s seediest city.

(US | UK) Click over for a sneak peek of Louisa Morgan’s absorbing new tale of love, sacrifice, family ties, and magic, set in the Pacific Northwest in the aftermath of World War II.

Barrie Anne Blythe and her aunt Charlotte have always known that the other residents of their small coastal community find them peculiar—two women living alone on the outskirts of town. It is the price of concealing their strange and dangerous family secret.

But two events threaten to upend their lives forever. The first is the arrival of a mysterious abandoned baby with a hint of power like their own. The second is the sudden reappearance of Barrie Anne’s long-lost husband—who is not quite the man she thought she married.

Together, Barrie Anne and Charlotte must decide how far they are willing to go to protect themselves—and the child they think of as their own—from suspicious neighbors, the government, and even their own family…

If you loved Practical Magic, The Witch’s Daughter, or A Discovery of Witches, then The Witch’s Kind will be your new favorite novel. It publishes in Spring 2019, but meanwhile, go say hi to Louisa on Twitter, and if you haven’t tried A Secret History of Witches, pick up that book before The Witch’s Kind drops!

Cover Launch: GRAVE IMPORTANCE by Vivian Shaw

Are you ready for an adventure in the French countryside—one that includes vampires, witches, demons, and one harried but indomitable doctor?

We’re excited to launch the cover of GRAVE IMPORTANCE, the last volume in the Greta Helsing series, Vivian Shaw’s much-loved books about this eminently sensible doctor to the undead and her found family of very polite monsters.

To tell you a bit more about Greta’s further adventures:

Oasis Natrun: a private, exclusive, highly secret luxury health spa for mummies, high in the hills above Marseille, equipped with the very latest in therapeutic innovations both magical and medical. To Dr. Greta Helsing, London’s de facto mummy specialist, it sounds like paradise. But when Greta is invited to spend four months there as the interim clinical director, it isn’t long before she finds herself faced with a medical mystery that will take all her diagnostic skill to solve.

A peculiar complaint is spreading among her mummy patients, one she’s never seen before. With help from her friends and colleagues—including Dr. Faust (yes, that Dr. Faust), remedial psychopomps, a sleepy scribe-god, witches, demons, a British Museum curator, and the inimitable vampyre Sir Francis Varney—Greta must put a stop to this mysterious illness before anybody else crumbles to irreparable dust…

…and before the fabric of reality itself can undergo any more structural damage.

Grave Company hits the shelves in Summer 2019, which gives you just enough time to check out the first two Greta Helsing books, STRANGE PRACTICE (US | UK) and DREADFUL COMPANY (US | UK). If you’ve finished those and can’t wait for your next Greta fix, visit Vivian at her website where she is currently posting a series of hilarious recaps of the vampyre Varney’s original exploits, and on Twitter @ceruleancynic.

Cover Launch: JADE WAR by Fonda Lee

Do you feel your jade senses tingling? Are you wondering what surprise the world has in store today?

We’re excited to launch the cover of JADE WAR (US | UK), Fonda Lee’s much-anticipated sequel to the Nebula, Locus, and World Fantasy Award-nominated JADE CITY (US | UK)! In this installment of the Green Bone Saga, the Kaul siblings battle rival clans for honor and for control of the metropolis of Janloon—which you can see in the background of the cover (designed by the fabulous Lisa Marie Pompilio).

To tell you a bit more about what’s in store for the Kauls:

On the island of Kekon, the Kaul family is locked in a violent feud for control of the capital city and the supply of magical jade that endows trained Green Bone warriors with supernatural powers they alone have possessed for hundreds of years.

Beyond Kekon’s borders, war is brewing. Powerful foreign governments and mercenary criminal kingpins alike turn their eyes on the island nation. Jade, Kekon’s most prized resource, could make them rich—or give them the edge they’d need to topple their rivals.

Faced with threats on all sides, the Kaul family is forced to form new and dangerous alliances, confront enemies in the darkest streets and the tallest office towers, and put honor aside in order to do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival—and that of all the Green Bones of Kekon.

Jade War publishes in Summer 2019 and is available for preorder, but in the meantime, go say hi to Fonda at her website and on Twitter @FondaJLee.

Hillbilly Television Options M. R. Carey’s New Novel SOMEONE LIKE ME

See below for an exciting press release that has gone out about M. R. Carey’s new novel SOMEONE LIKE ME! (UK|US|ANZ)

SOMEONE LIKE ME

London-based production company Hillbilly Television has optioned rights for Someone Like Me, the new novel by M. R. Carey, author of the million-copy bestselling The Girl With All the Gifts.

Someone Like Me will be published worldwide in November 2018 by Orbit – an imprint of Little Brown Book Group in the UK and Hachette Book Group in the US. A modern take on the Jekyll and Hyde story, the novel is described by the publisher as “an extraordinary thriller with a twist you won’t see coming.”

Hillbilly Television was co-founded by Polly Leys and Kate Norrish, whose collective credits include The Full Monty and Second Coming, starring Idris Elba.

Leys and Norrish commented “We’re absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to adapt Someone Like Me for television. Mike’s reputation precedes him both as a novelist and screenwriter and it’s an exciting prospect to be working with him on this. Someone Like Me is a surprising and compelling story that will appeal to Mike’s existing fanbase as well as introducing more fans to his incredible work”.

Mike commented, “It’s a real pleasure to be working with Hillbilly. They’re amazing – and inspiring – in their insight, energy and commitment to story. I’m hugely enjoying the process of adapting the novel for a new medium with them.”

Over the past two years, Hillbilly has produced prestigious TV drama series for both UK and international broadcasters. Stand-out titles include ITV’s tense thriller The Level, whose all-star cast includes Phillip Glenister, Karla Crome and Laura Haddock; Debbie Tucker Green’s acclaimed Random for Channel 4, whose slew of awards include a BAFTA for Best Single Drama; and new comedy drama Loaded, co-produced by Keshet UK for Channel 4 and AMC, which has now been acquired by Netflix.

The deal was negotiated by Meg Davis at the Ki Agency Ltd, London.
