“Furious where it needs to be, deceptively tender where it can get away with it, adventurous all around.”
— Sam Sykes on Hope and Red

As Red becomes increasingly embroiled in palace politics, he learns that even life among the nobility can be deadly.

While terrorizing imperial ships as the pirate Dire Bane, Hope stumbles onto a plot of such horrifying scope that it makes even the massacre of her childhood village seem small in comparison.

In a fracturing empire spread across savage seas, two young people from different cultures find common purpose.

Beware the Age of Dread!

Stephen Aryan stormed onto the epic fantasy scene with his award-nominated debut BATTLEMAGE (UK|US|ANZ) – a thunderous adventure of furious battles, lethal magic and valiant heroes. The epic story continued in BLOODMAGE (UK|US|ANZ) and concludes in CHAOSMAGE (UK|US|ANZ), out this month!

Never fear however, as there’s plenty more magic-infused action where that came from. We’re delighted to announce that we have signed up Stephen for a brand new trilogy – the Age of Dread – which will be set in the same world as his original series. More battles! More magic! More blood . . .

We just can’t wait.

The Age of Dread trilogy was acquired by Orbit Commissioning Editor Jenni Hill, who bought world English rights from Juliet Mushens at United Talent. The first book in the series will be released in October 2017. Plenty of time to sharpen your axes (and to read the previous books if you haven’t already!).

It’s time you met THE TOURIST

It’s a safe bet that 200 years from 2016 will look a lot different to future populations. Think about how different the 90’s looks to us now.

Robert Dickinson’s debut novel THE TOURIST grapples with these issues through the lens of the most original conspiracy thriller you will read this year.

The Tourist is available now in hardcover, ebook, and audio formats. Read an excerpt at ReadTheTourist.com.

Introducing Dale Lucas’s FIRST WATCH

dale-lucas-cr-jp-wrightThe Lord of the Rings meets Lethal Weapon in Dale Lucas’s fantasy debut novel, FIRST WATCH. In this rousing new fantasy, two misfit partners work a case in a crime-ridden city filled with orcs, humans, elves, dwarves, and mages.

Orbit has acquired three novels in the Fifth Ward series, and First Watch will launch in summer 2017. You can give Dale a warm Orbit welcome on Twitter at @DaleLucas114.

Humans, orcs, mages, elves, and dwarves all jostle for success and survival in the cramped quarters of Yenara, while understaffed Watch Wardens struggle to keep its citizens in line. Enter Rem: new to Yenara and hungover in the city dungeons with no money for bail. When offered a position with the Watch to compensate for his crimes, Rem jumps at the chance.

His new partner is less eager. Torval, a dwarf who’s handy with a maul and known for hitting first and asking questions later, is highly unimpressed with the untrained and weaponless Rem.

But when Torval’s former partner goes missing, the two must consort with the usual suspects — drug dealing orcs, mind-controlling elves, uncooperative mages, and humans being typical humans — to uncover the truth and catch a murderer loose in their fair city.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN

This mercenary band is back together for one last wyld ride in Nicholas Eames’s debut fantasy KINGS OF THE WYLD — rockin’ cover below. Art by Richard Anderson, cover design by Lisa Marie Pompilio. KINGS OF THE WYLD will be out in Feb. 2017, and your favorite authors are already raving about it:

“Absolutely awesome. If the Beatles held a concert tomorrow (with all the necromancy required for that to happen), it still wouldn’t be as good a ‘getting the band back together’ story as this. Full of heroes, humor, and heart.”—Jon Hollins

“An outstanding debut which will make you laugh and cry and hold your breath. This is a book that has it all.”—K. J. Parker

“Nicholas Eames brings brazen fun and a rock & roll sensibility to the fantasy genre.”— Sebastian de Castell

“Kings of the Wyld took me back to my Dungeons and Dragons days. It has well-crafted characters long past their best but still fighting, non-stop fantasy action and welcome touches of humor. Great reading!”— Ian Irvine

“A promising, fast-paced debut that balances classic quest fantasy with modern sensibilities and liberal doses of humor. Huzzah!”— Alex Marshall

The first two books are available now in all good bookstores, and everyone is raving about them! Here is some of the praise we’ve seen so far:

“Feels like a Tarantino movie: a hugely entertaining mix of adventure and comedy, punctuated by moments of darkness, with clever dialogue and explosive set-pieces…a pure joy to read.” – Booklist (starred review) on A Crown for Cold Silver

A rollicking, obscene, subversive, and zany epic fantasy ride.” – B&N Sci-Fi and Fantasy Blog on A Blade of Black Steel

My favorite kind of fantasy – alternately irreverent and brutal, with a cast of wonderfully scarred and nasty people. Any fans of Steven Erikson, Mark Lawrence, or Joe Abercrombie will love A Crown for Cold Silver.” – Django Wexler

“Cold Zosia’s blood-soaked quest for revenge as she takes up arms again forms the backbone of a narrative that encompasses fanatical religions, ethnic conflict and enough fiendish political maneuvering to make George R.R. Martin jealous.” – Shelf Awareness on A Crown for Cold Silver

“Zosia and her Five Villains are as fun as they are twisted.” – David Dalglish on A Crown for Cold Silver

Exceptional writing, middle-aged warrior heroine, and organically infused gender nonconformity make this fantasy epic a first-rate trailblazer…splendid storytelling, wry humor, and unresolved intrigue.” – Publishers Weekly (starred review) on A Crown for Cold Silver

“Full of bloody battles and strong females…twisted and surprising.” – RT Book Reviews on A Blade of Black Steel

A Crown for Cold Silver drags epic fantasy through the mud — but it does so with wit, wonder and wisdom.” – NPR Books

Welcome Vivian Shaw!

Meet Greta Helsing, fast-talking doctor to the undead. Keeping the supernatural community not-alive and well in London has been her family’s specialty for generations.

Orbit has acquired three novels in this lively new series, beginning with STRANGE PRACTICE in summer 2017. In the meantime, say hello to Vivian on Twitter @ceruleancynic or on Tumblr at http://vivianshaw.tumblr.com/.

vivian-shaw-cr-emilia-blaserGreta Helsing inherited the family’s highly specialized, and highly peculiar, medical practice.  In her consulting rooms, Dr. Helsing treats the undead for a host of ills — vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights, and entropy in mummies. Although barely making ends meet, this is just the quiet, supernatural-adjacent life Greta’s been groomed for since childhood.

Until a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human and undead Londoners alike. As terror takes hold of the city, Greta must use her unusual skills to stop the cult if she hopes to save her practice, and her life.

Welcome Antonia Honeywell!

Orbit US has uncovered a hidden gem with the debut novel THE SHIP by Antonia Honeywell. Gorgeous writing and a thrilling coming-of-age story combine in one of the most highly praised books in the UK last year. Carey called it “a beautiful futuristic fable with huge power.” THE SHIP will be making her maiden voyage across the Atlantic, reaching US audiences for the first time in April 2017, and in paperback in November 2017. London burned for three weeks. And then it got worse…

Lalla has grown up sheltered from the chaos amid the ruins of civilization. But things are getting more dangerous outside. People are killing each other for husks of bread, and the police are detaining anyone without an identification card. On her sixteenth birthday, Lalla’s father decides it’s time to use their escape route–a ship big enough to save five hundred people.

Aboard, her father is the beloved king of their band of survivors and she is their treasured princess. But the utopia her father has created isn’t everything it appears. There’s more food than anyone can eat, but nothing grows; more clothes than anyone can wear, but no way to mend them; and no-one can tell her where they are going.
