A statement from Orbit regarding Sam Sykes

We believe that it is the right of everyone in the SFF and publishing communities to feel safe and welcome, and that all forms of sexual harassment and abusive behavior are unacceptable. We appreciate the enormous bravery of the victims of this behavior who speak out, and, although it should never be their responsibility, we thank them sincerely for making us aware of this behavior and helping us to understand the impact it has.

Sam Sykes has today issued a statement regarding his behavior and the steps he is taking. Further to this, and in agreement with the author, Orbit will not be acquiring further books by Sam Sykes at the end of our current contract, and will not be arranging or supporting any public appearances by Sam Sykes, including at conventions, for the foreseeable future.

Orbit supports and thanks all those who are committed to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for authors and other members of the SFF and publishing communities. We will be donating 50% of all publishing profits from the remaining books on our contract with Sam Sykes to an organization that works towards that goal.
