New Acquisition: A BIG SHIP AT THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE by Alex White

Alex R. WhiteSpace is filled with treasure. No, not natural resources. Actual treasure, like gigantic ancient spaceships that contain secrets and riches untold. Enter author Alex White. We’ve acquired Alex White’s breakneck science fiction adventure series, The Salvagers. The first book in the series A BIG SHIP AT THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE introduces you to Nilah, a gutsy young racer, and Boots, a semi-retired (to put it nicely) treasure hunter. The two become wrapped up in a dangerous hunt for a mythical spaceship at, you guessed it, the edge of the universe. If you’re looking for non-stop, action-packed science fiction, then this series is perfect for you. Go say “hi” to Alex at his website: alexrwhite.com.

Boots Elsworth was a famous treasure hunter in another life, but now she’s washed up. She makes her meager living faking salvage legends and selling them to the highest bidder, but this time she might have stumbled on something real–the story of the Harrow, a famous warship, capable of untold destruction.

Nilah Brio is the top driver in the Pan Galactic Racing Federation and the darling of the racing world–until she witnesses the murder a fellow racer. Framed for the murder and on the hunt to clear her name, Nilah only has one lead: the killer also hunts a woman named Boots.

On the wrong side of the law, the two women board a smuggler’s ship that will take them on a quest for fame, for riches, and for justice.

Orbit has acquired World rights in three books from Connor Goldsmith of Fuse Literary Agency, and the first book will hit shelves in Spring 2018.

The end of Shannara has begun…THE BLACK ELFSTONE is out now

The release of THE BLACK ELFSTONE (UKANZ) marks an important moment in the fantasy calendar, and for millions of fans around the world, it’s a bittersweet occasion.

It was in 1977 that Terry Brooks released what was to become one of modern fantasy’s most popular novels ever, The Sword of Shannara. It kick-started a fantasy phenomenon which has lasted for 40 years and over 28 novels, and today Terry’s Shannara books are still as popular as ever. He is lauded as one of the true masters of modern fantasy, with bestselling authors such as Brent Weeks, Patrick Rothfuss, Philip Pullman, Christopher Paolini and Peter V. Brett all citing him as a powerful influence on their writing and the genre as a whole.

And now with THE BLACK ELFSTONE – the first book in the Fall of Shannara series – it is with both excitement and sadness that fans will see Terry start to bring the world to a conclusion.

In an interview with UNBOUND WORLDS, Terry had this to say:

“This four book set is intended to give readers new and old, but especially those who have stayed with me all these years, one last look at the Four Lands and a cast of characters who will write the final story to how things turn out in my lifetime, anyway, for this world. It does not tie up all the loose ends nor does it answer all questions. But it does look forward, it does hearken back, and it does spin one last tale of characters that will hopefully resonate with readers. Much of what you will read will remind you of things that happened in early books and of what I think were my strengths in writing epic fantasy for 50 years”

You can read the rest of the interview here, and THE BLACK ELFSTONE (UKANZ) is available in all good bookshops now.

New Acquisition: THE BOOKS OF BABEL by Josiah Bancroft

Josiah BancroftIn fantasy, looming towers are a staple, but we rarely see the intricate details of their inner workings. If you’ve ever wanted to deeply explore a world set within one of these iconic towers, Orbit has just the series for you. We’ve acquired Josiah Bancroft’s stunning and strange self-published, debut fantasy series, The Books of Babel, which begins with SENLIN ASCENDS. It has received some major praise from fantasy authors and fans alike. The series focuses on Thomas Senlin, a mild-mannered headmaster who quickly becomes lost in the massive and ancient Tower of Babel. Now, we’ll let some other folks do the talking:

Senlin Ascends is one of the best reads I’ve had in ages . . . I was dragged in and didn’t escape until I’d finished two or three days later.”

—Mark Lawrence, author of Prince of Thorns

Senlin Ascends crosses the everyday strangeness and lyrical prose of Borges and Gogol with all the action and adventure of high fantasy. I loved it, and grabbed the next one as soon as I turned the last page.”

—Django Wexler, author of The Thousand Names

“Bancroft succeeds amazingly in creating a baffling world that offers little tenderness or hope, but in which the pursuit of instinct and love, dedication and shared sacrifice can overcome barriers. If he sustains the tone of quirky menace in his planned sequel, the reader will find much to applaud.”

Publishers Weekly, starred review

Senlin Ascends starts off with a bang, and it never slows down. With its breathtaking pace, this book will appeal to a wide variety of readers.”

—San Francisco Book Review

“This is an exceedingly rich book. A depth of imagination married with a poetic turn of phrase and an engaging cast of characters conspire to deliver an epic story soaring high above the clouds.”

“Whimsy, adventure, and romance are the Tower’s real trade.” – Everyman’s Guide to the Tower of Babel, I. V

The Tower of Babel is the greatest marvel in the world. Immense as a mountain, the ancient Tower holds unnumbered ringdoms, warring and peaceful, stacked one on the other like the layers of a cake. It is a world of geniuses and tyrants, of airships and steam engines, of unusual animals and mysterious machines.

Soon after arriving for his honeymoon at the Tower, the mild-mannered headmaster of a small village school, Thomas Senlin, loses track of his wife, Marya, in the crowds. Senlin’s search carries him through madhouses, ballrooms, and burlesque theaters. He must survive betrayal, assassination, and the long guns of a flying fortress. But if he hopes to find his wife, he will have to do more than just survive.

This quiet man of letters must become a man of action.

Orbit has acquired World English language rights in four books from Ian Drury of Sheil Land Associates Ltd., and the first book, Senlin Ascends, will hit shelves in early 2018. Follow Josiah Bancroft on Twitter and Facebook.

He has won numerous awards including the DAVID GEMMELL LEGEND AWARD and the GRAND PRIX DE L’IMAGINAIRE. Born in 1948 in Łódź, Sapkowski studied economics and worked as a financier until the success of his fantasy cycle about the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, turned him into a bestselling writer. His books have now been translated into almost 20 languages and The Witcher games, inspired by Sapkowski’s books, have sold over 20 million copies worldwide. A signed copy of one of his books was given to President Obama as a diplomatic gift by the Polish Prime Minister.

LOW ELF ESTEEM is available now!

“With each new chapter in his outstanding Pax Arcana series, James ups his game in both excellent character development and world expansion. If you love wisecracks in the face of ultimate danger, then John Charming is definitely your man!”RT Book Reviews on In Shining Armor (Top Pick! 4.5 stars)

Elliott James’s Legend Has It launched last month and if you’re wondering when you’ll get your next John Charming fix, look no further: a new Pax Arcana short story is out now, LOW ELF ESTEEM.

Low Elf Esteem is the epic finale in a series of short stories in the Pax Arcana world, introducing us to John Charming. John is a descendant of a long line Charmings—an illustrious family of dragon slayers, witch finders, and killers dating back to before the fall of Rome. Trained by a modern-day version of the Knights Templar, monster hunters who have updated their methods from chain mail and crossbows to Kevlar and shotguns, John Charming was one of the best—until a curse made him one of the abominations the Knights were sworn to hunt.

“The Pax Arcana books are seriously good reads. Action, humor, and heart with unexpected twists and turns. If you are (like me) waiting for the next Butcher or Hearne — pick up Elliott James. Then you can bite your nails waiting for the next James, too.”Patricia Briggs, New York Times #1 bestselling author of the Mercy Thompson series

“Loved it! Charming is a giant gift basket of mythology and lore delivered by a brilliant new voice in urban fantasy. Elliott James tells stories that are action-packed, often amusing, and always entertaining.”Kevin Hearne, New York Times bestselling author of Hounded

“I loved this book from start to finish. Exciting and innovative, Charming is a great introduction to a world I look forward to spending a lot more time in.”Seanan McGuire, New York Times bestselling author

“James’s world is rich and complex and well worth diving into.”Richard Kadrey, New York Times bestselling author

“In a saturated literary realm, James’s tale stands out for the gritty, believable world he builds…This is masculine urban fantasy in the vein of Jim Butcher and Mark del Franco.”Booklist

“This debut introduces a self-deprecating, wisecracking, and honorable-to-a-fault hero who can stand up to such established protagonists as Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden and Seanan McGuire’s October Daye. Combining action and romance — with an emphasis on action — this is a top-notch new series opener for lovers of urban fantasy.”Library Journal (Starred review)

“Grab some snacks and settle back as splendid debut author James serves up a Prince Charming tale yanked sideways…James’s reluctant hero faces threats and danger with a smart-ass attitude that keeps the narrative fast-paced, edgy and amusing. Mark this name down — you will undoubtedly be seeing more from James!”RT Book Reviews
